Introduction
“Into the embrace of the sea that holds all wounds…” An original opera that highlights the haenyeo (female divers) of Jeju Island, recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Against the sea that gives selflessly yet can take lives in an instant, the work portrays the prayers, struggles, conflicts, and hopes of coastal villagers who live in reliance on it, ultimately reflecting on the meaning of embracing and holding one another.
