Introduction
In this madangnori production, the Confucian ideal of the seonbi is reimagined with verve and humor. A scholar single-mindedly chasing rank and fame switches bodies with a farmhand and, by living an ordinary person’s life, confronts his own arrogance and greed. Guided by the character “Gyeong (reverence)” carved on a rock by Jukgyocheon Stream, the work asks what it truly means to be a virtuous scholar.
