Introduction
This original performance is inspired by the folktales of Yulgok Yi I, a historic Confucian scholar from Gangneung, a coastal city in Korea. The story, centered around the symbol of a chestnut tree, is told through a blend of traditional Korean music (gugak) and madang-geuk, a traditional form of outdoor folk theater where actors and audience closely interact. Combining these diverse elements of Korean traditional arts, the concert creates a lively, family-friendly experience that audiences of all ages can enjoy.
